Payment terms and conditions

Minimum Charge

In common with many businesses, I have a minimum charge to cover the administration costs. I charge £30.00 for this work and normally covers up to 300 words.

Time Related Work (e.g. Proof-Reading)

Work performed by the hour will be discussed with individual clients and specific prices agreed dependant on the individual circumstances.

Research Time & Travel Time

If I feel that research is necessary before starting any work - or will become needed during the work - then I will advise the fact to the client. Typically this can be visiting specific clients or places, finding similar services, or obtaining co-operation from knowledgeable persons.

Research & Travel Time will be estimated and agreed with the client before it is performed.

Research & Travel Time is charged at £25.00 per hour (pro rata for part hours).

Complexity of Translations

Naturally, some translations are more complex than others. I can usually handle these but they do take longer and require more effort and reference material. I have a very substantial collection of reference material but it can take some time to find an accurate translation for the more obscure material (e.g. a quote from the bible but no reference).

For normal complexity translations I charge £80.00 per 1000 words.

For higher than normal complexity translations I charge £100.00 per 1000 words.

For very complex translations I charge £120.00 per 1000 words.

I will agree a translation's complexity with the client in advance.

To reduce the complexity of translations please ensure that he original material is totally clear and unambiguous. Provision of appropriate reference material, knowledgeable persons, general support, and a proof-reader will also help reduce the charges.

Payment Terms

I expect full payment for delivered work to be received within 30 days from the date of delivery unless previously agreed with the client to the contrary. I can accept cash, cheque, & BACS, but regret that credit & debit card payments cannot be accepted.

Naturally, despite my best efforts, if any client believes they find fault in my work I will be willing to discuss it and rectify this as agreed.

All rights to the work will be transferred on payment of the invoice relating to that work.

Unpaid Work

All work supplied remains the property of the translator until paid for in full. Once used, the translation is deemed accepted. All work unpaid after 30 days will accrue interest charges at 10% per month and debt recovery charges.
